THE ALTMER
Suurootan and Karinnarra, shopkeepers of Novaroma, in Bruma.
No sense in trying to refute it. I was extremely nervous about the Elves. How do you remake a race that exists only in fairy tales and offers no real world equivalent (as far as we know, barring what we may soon discover in the looming exopolitical arena)? At odds with the void of creativity I found myself immersed in, I launched Morrowind, and ran around in every Elf populated town I could find, taking many screenshots. Along with inspirational images found on the Internet, eventually a point was reached where no doubt remained: the High Elves would be stellar in their appearance - perhaps even what I would consider to be extraterrestrial - with faces befitting their tall and commanding stature. Emphasis would be given on eyes, higher and more pronounced cheekbones, drawn out and thinning chins, and strong yet artistic appearing jawlines. Above all, I knew I had to make the Altmer look as though they held a type of otherworldly wisdom not easily seen or perceived by mortals. For music, I concentrated on gentle, soothing melodies (Enya, Enigma, Imogen Heap, and others). By the end of it, I knew that not only had I nailed the Altmer down solid, but that what I had learned from them would serve me well for TES' flagship race: the Dunmer...
