Ironically, the Bretons were one of the races I tried the hardest to get right in the beginning, but wound up receiving the harshest criticism for. The reason? My initial attempts made them appear too "cartoonish" and comical, whereas many fans complained that if anything, Bretons should appear eccentric rather than goofy. One forum poster had even gone to the trouble of writing a full page on the Bretons, detailing their likes and dislikes, habits, personalities - right down to the most minute details of their existence. Armed with such knowledge, I decided to continue developing the other races and come back to the Bretons later. Needless to say, their second pass under the surgical knife was far more successful. In fact, along with the Dunmer and Orcs, the Bretons are now many players' favorite TNR race. Can't say I blame them. They melted my heart more than once. Is it possible to fall in love with a video game character? Yikes...
