THE DUNMER
Don't let anyone tell you different: when it comes to "coolness" and sheer popularity, few races have been blessed more than the blue-gray skinned Dunmer. Even their current existence outside of Vvardenfell's Ashlands has erased none of their allure for players.

The Dark Elves became a major concern for me from the start. Many players disliked the more severe blue tones Bethesda had decided to give them in Oblivion, and even felt that their eyes were not as bloodshot or as red as they ought to be. And so even before I got to them, I felt they would give me a rough time.

Not so. In fact, I found myself able to manipulate and shape their features like it was second nature, almost like on some level this was familiar territory. In a way, it was. Although no real world equivalent exists for a blue skinned Elven race of course, I did find myself coming back in my mind to my own Native people, and how suitable "Indian" features would seem on Tamriel's darling race. Fierce pride, cunningness at war and strategy, highly developed stealth and marksmanship, alchemical and arcane abilities, ancestral worship - these are all things my own people hold dearly. In my mind, the connection between the two seemed perfect. Somehow or other I had to try to bring that feeling into the Dunmer. My first attempt at face changing the Dunmer was with an NPC named "Blue Team Gladiator".

For inspiration, I chose famous actor Wes Studi ("Magua" in Last Of The Mohicans). Rather than attempting to copy Wes' face to the last detail, I tried to give this NPC Magua's sense of hate and distrust, his strong spirit honed by war and battles, and his inner sadness of knowing that his kind is passing into another world. I became quite happy with the end result, and allowed that first trial to infuse the other Dunmer NPCs. Ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present to you...the Dunmer!
